Separate Your Office and Personal Life

With the advancements in technology, separating your personal life from the office becomes harder than ever. First, your friends and/or family call you during work. Then when you’re outside the office, you’ll receive a text from your boss asking for updates. The line between your personal and office life is now looking blurry.

Let everybody know about your schedule

Chances are, your friends and family already know what time your work starts and ends. It all starts with you. You are responsible for letting them know that you are working and are not to be disturbed unless it is something important. Buying tickets to the Justin Beiber concert can wait. I’m not talking about being too stiff and never looking at your cellphone during working hours. Read your personal messages but only reply if an immediate answer is needed.

For your colleagues and bosses, let them know that you have a life outside the office. You have friends and family to spend time with. Don't forget you should give time for yourself too! Make sure that your officemates understand that after office hours is the only time you can dedicate to yourself, and your friends and family. Only answer to their call if it’s an emergency.

Leave your problems to where they are

Sometimes, you might have an argument with your family members before going into work. Or you made a big mistake in your company. Whatever it is, don’t bring them into the other side. Ranting to your officemates about your spouse will only drive them away from you while sulking over your blunder when you get home only upsets your family too. Leave your problems to where they are and solve them at the right time and place.

It is best that you start following these the moment you start with the company. However, it is not too late if your personal and office life is currently interchanged. You can start right now and in time, you will surely appreciate the separation of your office and personal life.
