One of the common characteristics a fresh graduate brings to the workplace is his/her enthusiasm to work. Always early for work. Doing the necessary homework. Working overtime. Everywhere they go their enthusiasm shines. Yet after some time, the enthusiasm slowly fades. The energetic fresh grad starts to be late. Sometimes not meeting the deadline. Still working overtime. And the most critical aspect: not being interested to work. What happened?
For most fresh graduates, they get burned out with all the effort they are exerting. When the manager doesn’t notice them, or when they do their best yet still not come up with the results they wanted. The end result is they get burned out. Being too tired and too exhausted, the enthusiasm brought by the once-energetic employee dies. Soon their performance gets affected too.
The Good News
Right now, you might be burned out in your work. If you miss being the old enthusiastic you, then you should take the necessary steps to get it back. Here are some tips that I can recommend:
1. Work out, relax, and socialize. Being too busy at work makes you forget what it feels like to do these activities. Additionally, doing just any one of these activities can help alleviate the stress you’ve been receiving from your work.
2. Take some time off to think about what happened. Maybe you need to adjust to your situation? Or perhaps there’s something that you can change to make your office life better?
3. Seek the reason that inspired you to do your best in the first place. Or better yet, create a new one! Whatever it is, use it as your motivation to get you back to the game.
These are just some steps that you can use whenever you’re feeling burned out. You don’t have to do all of them every time, just whatever works. The most important thing is that you get rejuvenated and excited to work again.
How about you, what do you do when you’re burned out?
