Being a Filipino, we are naturally shy and try to stay away from people we don't know. But you shouldn’t commit this newbie mistake whenever you enter a company. A lot of opportunities are being wasted if you choose to just sit still at the office. Imagine working at least 8 hours a day and not talking to the person beside you. How boring is that?!
The keyword here is to socialize. It doesn’t matter if it’s during the elevator ride or a coffee break at the pantry as long as you’re making yourself known. Spend some time to get to know your teammates more. Hang out with them after office hours. Or talk to the big bosses about company issues you have. Or chat with that cute secretary you’ve been eyeing on since your interview. About time you make a move.
Whether it’s your first job or not, you should stop hiding and make yourself known to everybody. This will make your corporate life livelier and love your job even more.
