Spend a Little More Time At the Office

All office based employees have to render at least 8 hours a day to the company before calling it a day. Just like in school, a lot of employees arrive just on time for work and leave the office once the “bells ring”. However, I’ll point out how going in a little early and staying at the office a few minutes more will surely benefit you.

Going in Early

Going in early might be a little tough at first as you have to wake up earlier than you normally would. But if you think about it, going in early has great benefits. First, you’ll be avoiding the traffic during rush hour. Second, you don’t necessarily have to work immediately upon sitting on your desk. You can get a cup of coffee or read the newspapers first. Most important of all, you will never be late for work. Think to yourself, just how many times have you been rushing to the office?

Staying After Office Hours

If you are on the verge of completing your task, then finish it first before leaving regardless if you can do it tomorrow or not. That’s one less work to do for you. If you were on a whole day meeting, answer all your emails first. Your colleagues will surely be impressed as most people are hard to contact via email, especially after office hours. If you have nothing else to do, then stay and make yourself known to your co-workers. Overtime a little, even if it’s OTY (your company doesn’t pay you for it).

The biggest benefit you will have in spending more time at the office regularly is when your boss knows it. Surely he will remember the ones who's working hard and those who can't wait to get out of the office and that's critical when it comes to your evaluation.

Note that I am assuming that you will be going home after office hours. The logic here is you'll probably just watch the new episode of Glee or other tv series once you get home. If you have something really important to attend to, by all means, go for it. Also, never forget to spend time with your family and friends.
