Depending on what kind of company you’re in, you’re bound to face one of these two problems: too much work or too little work. Too much work usually requires you to spend more time working while too little work gets you nowhere. My question is what problem would you like to have? Mine is to have too much work. Why?
Most employees, especially fresh grads, certainly would love to relax more hence would choose to have little work. Update your Twitter or Facebook account, chat with your officemates, and even go to the nearby mall! All while getting paid for it. Ayos! Now this is a dream job, right?
But the problem with too little work is that it decreases your value. You’re sitting for at least 8 hours a day waiting for nothing. Think about what your resume would look like after 3-5 years if you’ve done nothing in the company.
Going back to why I love to have too much work. I want to have a lot of work to do simply because I love solving the problem of too much work! Don’t get me wrong. I am no workaholic. Okay maybe a little. But I don’t like to spend 80% of my time in the office. I believe in having a work life balance.
Having too much work doesn’t necessarily translate into doing all of it alone as long as you can delegate. Having too much work doesn’t mean you’ll be at the office 24/7 because you should’ve had a schedule to begin with. Personally, I like having too much work because it hones me to become a better leader in the office.
How about you, which problem would you like to have?
